You see it every morning in the bathroom mirror. A brown patch on your cheek, a darker shadow above your lip, or a scatter of spots on your hands that were not there ten years ago. You apply foundation, and the patch shows through anyway. Pigmentation rarely fades on its own, and in the Lowveld it tends to darken every summer.
Why pigmentation appears
Special cells in your skin, the melanocytes, make its colour. Sun exposure tells those cells to work harder, so they deposit extra pigment wherever the sun hits most. Hormones play a part too. Pregnancy, the contraceptive pill and menopause can all trigger melasma, the larger, symmetrical patches that often settle on the cheeks and forehead. Acne, cuts and burns leave their own marks, because inflamed skin often produces extra pigment while it heals.
What actually helps
Concealer hides pigmentation, but it does not change it. Treatment does. At Bahati Aesthetics, we combine several approaches and tailor them to your skin and your type of pigmentation.
Chemical peels lift the top layers of pigmented skin and encourage fresh skin to replace them. Our menu includes alpha, beta, beta plus and TCA peels, and your therapist chooses the strength that suits you. Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin and prompts it to renew itself, which improves tone and texture together. For deeper sun damage, Fraxel laser targets pigmented areas with precision.
The honest part
Pigmentation treatment works as a course, not a single visit. You will usually need several sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, and your therapist confirms the plan at your consult. Melasma in particular can return, because hormones keep driving it. We manage it. We do not promise a cure.
Sun protection forms part of the treatment. If you skip your daily SPF, the pigment comes back, and no peel can beat a summer of unprotected sun. We recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, and we help you build a home-care routine that protects your results between visits.
Why November matters
Lowveld UV peaks over summer, and stronger resurfacing treatments such as Fraxel and TCA work best in the cooler months. So we start most clients on lighter peels and a strict home routine now, and we pre-book deeper treatments for April to August. You do the groundwork today, and you collect the biggest improvement when the sun backs off.
A note on skin tone
Darker skin tones need extra care, because the wrong peel can darken pigment instead of fading it. We assess your skin type at your consult before we choose any treatment, and we never rush that step.
